Appledore Aran Patterns

As you might have heard along the grapevine, we’ve just launched our Appledore Aran and we’re thrilled to finally show it off in all its glory!

We’re also incredibly excited that some rather talented designer chums have decided to use our deliciously bouncy Appledore Aran in their recent designs, so in case you were still wondering how to use your skeins, we thought we’d share some ideas with you. We have created kits for all these different patterns too, and it’s been the most fun pairing different shades together. (we’ll make sure to pop links to all our kits if you wanted a gander.)

The Lilleke Sweater Worsted and Lilleke Sweater Light by Aleks Byrd

Alek’s Lilleke Sweater is the perfect excuse to play with colour! Worked seamlessly in the round from the top down, the Lilleke combines a bit of relaxing stockinette, with a beautiful and striking Roosimine design, inspired by Aleks’ Estonian heritage.

In some of Alek’s samples she uses Spincycle yarn in the contrast yoke, however, we just adore how she has created the ombre effect using two different shades of our Appledore Aran. We have had a brilliant time creating some kits, combining our Yarnadelic Worsted or Harvest Hues 4ply (Light version) with Appledore Aran. If you fancy learning a new technique – this might be the one for you!

The Walled Garden Vest by Sonja Bargielowska

Sometimes you just want a speedy knit, with lots of interest, that you can wear all year round. Sonja’s Walled Garden Vest ticks all the boxes and we’ve loved seeing your own versions popping up on Ravelry and social media. With its log-cabin, garter construction, you can easily add as much or as little colour as you like.

We have created some kits in our Appledore Aran, so that you can create your own vest to be ready for whatever the season throws at you!

The Erratics Cowl and Hat Set by Anni Howard

Is there anything cosier than snuggling up into a chunky cowl and matching hat? The Erratics hat and cowl by Anni Howard is the perfect combo to set you up for Autumn-Winter, and we’ve put together some lovely colour-combos. (We can’t wait to see which ones you folk pick!)

Both hat and cowl are worked up in stocking stitch, with easily memorised panels of twist stitches and bobbles. We adore a bobble! Top your hat off with a pompom and you’ll be ready for anything our winter can throw at you.

The Plymouth Gin Hat by Thea Colman

Thea’s patterns are always a delight. Her way of using cables and texture is truly marvellous and we were delighted when she created a sample of her Plymouth Gin Hat in our Appledore Aran. The yarn is just perfect for textured projects – showing off the heathered nature of the shades brilliantly, so we’ve had a blast creating kits for you.

The open ovals of Thea’s cables feature elegant lines and classic twists within their centres, but it’s the way each lines up against the next oval that makes this hat so striking. The bold vertical lines allow for a nice contrast and create little diamonds as they come and go.

The Mermaid Sweater by Astrid

Astrid Tueting, of Knitting for Passion has created this oversized stunner to help keep us cosy whatever the seasons can throw at us, and we love it! It’s casual, oversized fit makes it incredibly wearable, and while this sweater might look complex, the pattern is actually very easy to make!

We adore the all-over textured design of this sweater, not only does it keep our interest while we’re knitting it up, but it makes the most out of the qualities of our Appledore Aran. It’s mix of Devon Closewool, Romney and Exmoor Blueface blocks out the wind and keep us warm when we’re walking on the moors, while giving the fabric the lustre and bounce to show off those textured stitches.

We hope these beauties keep you busy! There are definitely a few new patterns going on our ‘to make’ lists here at the mill, and we’ll be sharing what us mill folk have been knitting and crocheting with our newest Appledore, very soon!
