Dark Matter Yarn — and the winner is…
Every now and then we like to hand the reins over to our lovely newsletter subscribers and let them choose which yarn we should make next. We recently asked them to help us choose another special edition shade of Dark Matter, our beautiful blend of Falklands Merino with a hint of Silk and Alpaca, buttery soft and lustrous. It was so popular the first time that we thought we’d bring it back as it made such nice yarn the first time!
Our lovely Laura recently travelled across the Atlantic to see a total eclipse of the sun. It was an out-of-this-world experience that inspired her to make a whole new set of Dark Matter colours! To celebrate this sunny theme, these glorious new shades are that bit brighter and more vivid than our previous collection.

Now that the votes are in we can confirm that the winning shade is… Flare!
The Dark Matter Flare yarn is now available to pre-order for delivery later in August 2024. We’ve only just started spinning it so we have no finished yarn pictures at the moment, but our trusty handspinning hero Becks has quickly spun up a sample so you can see what it will look like! If you’d rather wait for the real pictures we understand, but we do have a limited amount of the fibres used in this blend so if it sells out before then we won’t be able to make any extra this time around I’m afraid. I don’t know about you though, but we rather like the idea of a mysterious unexplored space phenomenon ourselves – hehehe!
Blend: 80% Falklands Merino / 10% Mulberry Silk / 10% Alpaca
Spec: Sport weight 333m per 100g (3/10nm)

Flare
No one could deny that this zingy coral positively screams summer sunsets. We love the mix of vivid orange, with softer lavender and pink and can just imagine all the delicious summer garments we could knit and crochet up in this beauty.
Solstice
With it’s mix of jewel toned joyousness, we are all a little bit in love with Solstice. Rich purples, and burgundy make up this shade, and combine with those flashes of turquoise that remind us of long summer evening skies, just after the sun goes down.
Aurora
Soft purples and blues combine in a delicious mix that remind us of hazy summer days, looking up at a blue sky with flashes of white cloud. Aurora is a dreamy blend, and we adore how the slivers of silk play with the turquoise, blue and violet merino.
Eclipse
This fiery little number has all our hearts racing. The mix of warm reds, purples and pinks in our Eclipse top truly encapsulate our Dark Matter theme this summer, creating a shade that reminds us of a cheeky summer cocktail, or cozying up next to a firepit on a summer’s eve.
