Meet the Mill Folk — Lauren

Lauren is part of our Marketing team, working from home in the West Midlands. She can sometimes be found at our shows or at the mill as well, but is mostly behind her laptop busily working on our events, social media and product launches.

How long have you been working at Jarbon?
I’ve been here for about 2.5 years, and what fantastic years they have been 😊

How would you describe your job?
I’m part of the marketing team, so we get the lovely job of launching new products and patterns, looking after the social media feed and making sure people get to hear and see all our wonderful yarns and tops, as well as working on events like our Mill Open Weekend and our Annual, of course.

Why did you decide to work in a mill?
I have always worked in marketing and content, and I was a fan girl of JAT yarn for ages, so when I saw they were looking for a person to join their marketing team it seemed like a job made for me. At the time, I had a very small baby and no nursery planned and didn’t quite expect to get the role, but everything worked out just the way it was meant to, and it’s been a joy to work in an industry I’m so passionate about.

What is your favourite treat to snack on whilst at work?
Working from home most of the time means there are way too many snacks on hand. I always have a cup of tea on the go, which is often accompanied by a biscuit or two.

What is your favourite yarn or tops we make at the Mill? And why?
The shades in the Appledore range are right up my street, especially the pastel blend in ‘Quench’. I am a girl who loves a bit of pink.

Pets?
I have a puppy, who is currently 12 weeks old. He’s a gorgeous Golden Retriever and we love him, but with two little boys under 6 (Max and Zack) and our little black cat, Darcy, it’s a bit of a mad house!

What do you get up to when you’re not at work?
If I’m not knitting, I’ll probably be in the garden, or out and about with my family. I also love to journal, and try to turn my hand to most crafty and creative hobbies.

Why do you like working here, then?
Writing about yarn, coming up with fun ways to show them off, preparing for shows and events? It doesn’t really feel like a job to me!

Describe working at Jarbon Textiles in five words:
Friendly, bustling, creative, tactile, sheepy

What’s the best thing about living in North Devon?
I live in Staffordshire in the Midlands with my family, and visit the Mill regularly throughout the year.

What’s your favourite smell at the mill?
When people say the sheepy smell of the fibre is so great, it’s hard to imagine what they mean, then you smell it at the Mill and you realise why everyone thinks it’s so fantastic!
