Mouche and Friends

We absolutely adore all of Cinthia Vallet’s little knitted friends and have made several ourselves over the years as gifts as well as for us! We thought today we’d have a look at all the friends in the Mouche and Friends book and help with some colour suggestions for each of them and their outfits.

First up is Mouche himself, in his pajamas and dungarees. We have kits for Mouche in our KBN 4ply with a few colour options already picked out. We love the classic Burgundy and Mustard striped pjs, and of course had to give him some denim dungas so he could join all the mill folk and help us make a bit of yarn!

Next up is Hazel the Squirrel who we also have kits for as she was designed in KBN 4ply. The rich Copper shades make her a pleasing red squirrel colour, but you could always switch it up and use the greys instead? Her little dress in the pink and white is adorable, but we also love the turquoise version our sample has as it’s just so bright and playful!

We love the adorable cabled vest that Forrest the Bison has, as well as his cute little horns! We reckon he would be great in Devonia Burnished Bronze 4ply, with a vest in Pebble Brook or Sage Sprig?

Agi the sheep is another firm favourite with us as we love all things sheepy! We’d love to see a version in either Rupert or Edna Devon Naturals 4ply for the sheepy realness! Maybe mix things up and add some Zebedee or Reggie for the jacket and dress stripes?

Tino the Wolf would also be great in Devon Naturals in Zoe and Zebedee! And what’s more fitting than a wolf in sheep’s clothing? His little satchel would be cute in Yarnadelic Galleta Guitar for that rich brown leather look.

Giorgio the Cat has the loveliest colourwork vest and tiny little ears! I’d have to make mine a tuxedo version to match Joe the cat (see here in The Annual, issue three), so would need KBN 02 and KBN 55 for the body, and then maybe use some Harvest Hues for the vest?

Horacio the Donkey looks like he’d fit right in here at the mill in his dungarees and his little drawstring backpack!  We reckon Devonia Wood Smoke or Harvest Hues Barley would be a good body colour, and Moon Bloom or Borage for the denim?

Alphonse (and Mira) the Pig must be the most cheerful little critter in this book! The KBN Raspberry, Pink or Copper lighter shades would all make cute piggies, or maybe Pink Moon Yarnadelic? His awesome orange outfit worked in KBN 4ply is great as you can choose how bright or pastel you want to go!

Billie the Raccoon is clearly the naughtiest of all the creatures! His little stripey shirt reminds us of Dennis the Menace! The KBN or Devon Naturals  greys would be great for getting all the stripes needed for the body, and we think some Yarnadelic stripes in Sunflowers and Ordinary Joe would make a nice tee.

Nanna, Dodo and Mimosa the Ducks are a lovely little family, we think KBN 04 for Nanna and KBN 101 for the ducklings with KBN 13 for their beaks and feet is the closest colour match. Nanna’s dress in some Raspberry Pink and Mustard stripes, and then use those for the sweater and scarf for the ducklings too?

Last but not least is Henri the Orangutan! He has a wonderful textured jumper that we’re all very jealous of! We think Yarnadelic Wondrous Place would be a great orange for him, with Pink Moon hands and feet and a glorious Les Fleurs sweater!

Let us know if you’ve made any of the friends in our yarns and what colours you chose, or which ones you’re thinking of using!
