New Sock Sample Shenanigans!

With our four new shades of Exmoor Sock arriving at the Mill, everyone has been super keen to get out their dpns and whip up some new samples from their favourite patterns! That’s one great thing about knitting socks – they are a mega-quick and fun way to explore new yarns and colour combos!

We’re lucky enough to have some very talented crafters here at the Mill, and the socks they have made are rather special…

Sophie chose the Jolly Jellyfish pattern(above, left) by Stoneknits (Ravelry) and used a bit of everything in the colourwork there! ‘Pollywiggle’ forms the dark background and ‘Heedy Peep’, ‘Fairy Thimble’, and ‘Oddmedod’ pop perfectly in the playful colourwork sections featuring jellyfish and starfish.

Donna went for a bright and fresh green combo, using ‘Oddmedod’ and ‘Oolypuggers’ in a Pressed Flowers Sock (above, right) by Amy Christoffers (Ravelry ) The pattern uses all over mosaic knitting (which is easier than it looks!) to create a geometric floral pattern with little blips of the contrast colour in between — it looks so fun!

Laura’s ‘Red Panda’ and Sonja’s ‘Weekend Shorty’ socks.

Laura loved the new burgundy shade, ‘Hurdy’ so much, and just had to pick the Red Panda Socks by Astia Krebs (Ravelry | Astia’s Website), using ‘Pollywiggle’ and ‘Mizzle’ in the colourwork section. These joyful and classic socks also have a matching sweater pattern if you get carried away…

Sonja chose the Weekend Shorty Sock pattern by Summer Lee (Ravelry | Summer’s Website), one of the queens of sock knitting, using as many colours as she could fit in! We think the bold blocks of colour look fab in ‘Fuzzpig’, Hurdy’, ‘Hemel’, ‘Aggy’ and ‘Quick Beam’.

Helena’s new ‘Truuduse’ socks in Drizzle, with Aleks Byrd’s original sample in Mizzle.

Helena made a new neutral Truuduse sample (pattern by Aleks Byrd) in the darker, natural ‘Drizzle’ shade to contrast with the original ‘Mizzle’. Truuduse (Ravelry | Aleks’ Website) uses a twisted stitch pattern called a vikkel used in sock knitting on the Estonian island of Kihnu and we think it looks just as fun in this warm grey tone as the original.

‘Mismatch socks’ by Tea Bercek and ‘Sarah Scott’ by Kate Davies

We also have new samples of Tea Bercek’s Mismatch socks (Ravelry). With its chevron pattern reminiscent of oversized knit stitches it’s great for showing off contrasting colors, this time in ‘Hurdy’ and ‘Fairy Thimble’ (the original featured ‘Mackerel Sky’ and ‘Dimity’). We also have Kate Davies’ Sarah Scott Shorties from the Bluestockings book – originally in ‘Mackerel Sky’ or ‘Mizzle’ with ‘Bell Heather’. Our new version shows off ‘Heedy Peep’ with ‘Blooth’ for the floral motif bands, against a background of ‘Mizzle’ which we think is a nice subtle combo. A big shout out to our lovely sample knitter, Kayla!

We have kits available for all the glorious patterns mentioned above, in these colour combos and plenty of others that might catch your eye. If you fancy a closer look at our new Exmoor Sock shades, then one of our brand-spanking new Shade Cards might be just the ticket. Our new shadecard machine has been hard at work — we’ll have to introduce you soon!

Happy sock knitting, folks!
