Say ‘Hi’ to Our New Appledore Aran!

It’s here folks! Our Appledore Aran is ready and waiting for you to take your pick. Yay!

Appledore Aran has joined its chums – Appledore Lace and DK – in its organic, local, heavenly heathered form, perfect for your next cabled or textured project.

We have a bit of a soft spot for a squishy, heavy weight yarn – especially in these cold months – and we’ve wanted to increase our Appledore range for a while, so it’s been an absolute pleasure to create these special skeins. Us mill folk have plans to make all sorts of exciting projects (if only we had more hours in the day!) and we’ll be sure to let you know what we get up to…

Like our DK and Lace, our Appledore Aran blend is sourced from right here in the West Country, just one of the reasons it is so close to our hearts. Devon Closewool, a moorland breed, adds a nice rustic and grippy element, Romney gives us character and lustre, and our old favourite, Exmoor Blueface, adds glorious bounce and softness. The resulting blend is packed full of woolly bounce and a smattering of lustre. It also blooms beautifully, giving lots of options when it comes to gauge.

And the shades…. Blimey! If you’re a fan of heathered yarns that shift and alter with every stitch, Appledore might be just the ticket. Our Aran weight gives you even more opportunity to see all the different tones within each skein.

So here are the details you might want to have to hand…

Meterage: 167 metres per 100g / 41 metres per 25g

Blend: 40% Devon Closewool / 40% Romney / 20% Exmoor Blueface

Suggested Gauge: 21 – 27 sts  = 10 cm / 4 inches

Suggested Needle Sizes: 3.75 – 5.5 mm

We can’t wait to see all the snuggly, chunky projects from you folks as you get ready for the Autumn-Winter season (here in Devon, we’re experiencing a heatwave but we know that chilly weather is just around the corner!)

Over the last few months we’ve been working with a few talented designers, who have been busy creating some absolutely stunning patterns in our Appledore Aran, and we’ll be showing these off over the next few weeks so stay tuned for those!

In the meantime, here’s where you can find out more about our Appledore Aran.
