Celebrate Socktober with some beautiful hand dyed yarn created in collaboration with the talented Shadow, of Felt Fusion, on our delicious and durable Exmoor Sock yarn base.
If you’re new to it, Socktober is the perfect excuse to get your needles out and make a few pairs of new socks to keep your tootsies warm this autumn. This year we wanted to join in with the festivities, and as serious fans of Shadow’s rich and playful colourways, we’re chuffed she fancied collaborating with us again on these beautiful skeins of Devon Sea Swell on our Exmoor Sock 4ply base.
Shadow of Felt Fusion is well known for her wonderfully rich and playful colourways and (dangerously for us Mill Folks) regularly dyes on our Exmoor Sock. Shadow’s unique aesthetic, combined with our trusty sock base is a match made in heaven. We’re so thrilled with this moody mix of deep blues, greys and navy, with pops of brighter blue and white peeking through. Inspired by the darkness of wet rocks on a beach, combined with a lively Devon sea, exploding into fluffy white surf, Shadow has created something truly glorious.
Devon Sea Swell is stunning on it’s own – perhaps made into a simple pair of vanilla socks to really show off the variegation in the yarn. However, we have created a few options that pair Devon Sea Swell with a skein of Exmoor Sock in one of our own shades, giving you the option to make contrasting heels toes and cuffs! We can’t wait to see what you make.

A bit more about Shadow and Felt Fusion Yarn…
My woolly journey started in 2007. My interest was piqued and I needed a creative outlet after being at home for several years, bringing up our 3 boys. I taught myself to needle felt and then wet felt and after some time practicing, I set up shop. Once we’d discovered the magic of wool as a nappy cover, I taught myself to knit with the help of a book and some knitting friends. Since then I haven’t looked back and can’t remember a day when I haven’t knitted.
The natural progression from knitting was to dye the yarn. I love hand dyed yarns and have quite a stash from various international dyers. We were home educating and in 2013 I decided that we’d have a dabble and, well, the rest is history. I caught the bug big time! I am a self-taught dyer, ever evolving my colourways and dye techniques.
Since then my woolly journey has continued. I dye many times a week, run regular yarn clubs and occasional market events through my Facebook page. You’ll find me on Instagram, Ravelry, Facebook… as Felt Fusion.

Our Exmoor Sock base is a true workhorse yarn. It enhances the durable character and bounce of the fibre from our local Exmoor Blueface sheep – a cross breed of the Exmoor Horn (full bodied and hard-wearing) and the Bluefaced Leicester (renowned for its softness and lustre). We’ve added naturally dark browny-black Devon Zwartbles giving extra bounce and a subtle fleck of colour, plus Falklands Corriedale to enhance softness and stitch definition and a hint of Nylon for durability.
Hand wash at low temperature with mild detergent.
