‘Fallen Leaf’ by Marina Skua – Appledore Aran Special

£19.00

Introducing, ‘Fallen Leaf’ a limited-edition shade on our Appledore Aran base, created in collaboration with our chum, Marina Skua. A beautiful blend of local Devon wool in a joyfully autumnal shade.

Marina has an impeccable eye for colour, so we were thrilled to work with her on this special shade. Marina’s inspiration when blending this shade was a perfect tiny leaf that followed her into the mill on the winter’s day when she visited us, and her love of Beech trees – her corresponding pattern is called ‘Beechmast’ in honour of these stunning and colourful trees. We have ‘Beechmast’ kits, here.

All the fibre in our Appledore range is sourced from right here in the West Country, and like all our yarns, Appledore is steeped in our fibre heritage. We have blended together Devon Closewool, a moorland breed with rustic and grippy fibre, with lustrous and characterful Romney and our old favourite, the gloriously bouncy Exmoor Blueface. The resulting blend is packed full of woolly bounce and a smattering of lustre.

These skeins are 167m per 100g skein.

‘Fallen Leaf’ is also available as fibre tops, here.

This yarn is a 3 fold rounded Aran, with a distinctive rustic halo, perfect for cables and chunky knits. Although all worsted spun yarns have a lot of drape, this blend has slightly less than the majority of our yarns, giving it a cosy heirloom feel.

Whether you’re after the yarn or tops, our Appledore is a lively blend with an unpretentious air. It’s the ideal fibre to wear whilst rambling out and about scrumping apples. Find ‘Fallen Leaf’ tops here.

Marina Skua

Marina is a yarn dyer and hand-knit designer based in a small village in Wiltshire in the South-West of England. She started dyeing yarn as a hobby in 2015 and was immediately obsessed. She now creates beautiful hand-dyed yarns and knitwear designs that fit smoothly into a wardrobe; garments and accessories that can be worn in daily life – not just when we want to sling on a hand-knit to show off at a yarn show. We love her aesthetic and attention to detail, as well as her passion for sustainability.
