‘Moonage Daydream’ – Our Mill Open Weekend Special by Emily of Tin Can Knits

£6.50 - £19.00

As part of our annual Mill Open Weekend shenanigans, we always create a limited-edition mini collection of yarn and tops to help celebrate in style. This year we’ve been even more excited than usual, as we’ve been collaborating with some rather fabulous designers!

Emily Wessel (Tin Can Knits)Aleks Byrd, and Ysolda Teague-Long have each created custom shades of our beloved Yarnadelic. We’ve gotta’ hand it to them, they certainly have an eye for colour, so we’re just smitten with the shades they’ve blended up for us!

‘Moonage Daydream’, created by Emily, of Tin Can Knits is a punchy and playful shade that perfectly blends brighter greens and blues with darker tones, creating a delicious, heathered teal. We were completely thrilled when Emily said she’d like to create a limited edition shade for us – and cor blimey what a delight it is too! All our Yarnadelic shades are named after songs and this heathered teal was just crying out for a space-age party anthem, so Emily selected ‘Moonage Daydream’ by David Bowie. We can just imagine that vibrant teal complimenting his auburn quiff perfectly.

You’ll find our other Mill Open Weekend specials – ‘Dark Star’ by Aleks Byrd, ‘Space Talk’ by Ysolda Teague, ‘Halftone’ by Tiny Fibre Studio and ‘Whipsiderry’ by Amanda Hannaford.

Our Yarnadelic  Range

These Mill Open Weekend Specials are spun to the same specification as our Yarnadelic range, available in tops, sport/ heavy 4ply and worsted. Yarnadelic is 100% Falklands Corriedale. The breed is around 100 years old and was derived by crossing the Merino and Lincoln Longwool. It is one of our favourite fibres as its properties are a perfect balance of delightful softness and bounce from the Merino combined with the slight lustre and long staple length of the Lincoln Longwool – a fibre lover’s dream!

By giving this yarn a rounded 3 fold structure, we’ve enhanced the fibres natural stitch definition and drape creating the ideal all round go to yarn for everything from cables to lace and garments to accessories.

Our Corriedale is farmed in the Falkland Islands – ensuring that the animals have been treated with the utmost care and are free from harmful mulesing. The fibre has then been dyed in the UK and lovingly prepared, blended and spun at our North Devon Mill.

Emily of Tin Can Knits

Emily is one half of the brilliant Tin Can Knits who create wonderfully playful, inclusive and creative knitwear patterns for all ages and sizes. We’re huge fans of their designs and absolutely love some of the patterns they’ve designed in our Yarnadelic range (like the Starflower Blanket and Tarn Shawl). The brilliant folks over at Tin Can Knits have created a rather wonderful app, which we think you’ll love. The app offers 10 free patterns you can view in a totally new way, making it easier to follow, adjustable to your size and preferences, and provides extra help when you need it. Check it out here.
