Spin the Yarn You Actually Want, with Becks, of Tiny Fibre Studio
This workshop is part of our Mill Open Weekend celebrations.
If you can spin yarn but don’t always get the results you’re aiming for, this class is for you! Learn how to move beyond your ‘default’ yarn and start spinning with intention.
Alongside our expert, Becks of Tiny Fibre Studio, you’ll explore how to fine-tune your wheel for the ideal diameter and twist, gain insight into fibre selection, look at how drafting methods change the finished yarn and learn how to calculate the fibre you need for a project. By the end of the class, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to spin custom yarns tailored to your creative vision. See Eventbrite for full class description.
Skill Level Information: This class is aimed at advanced beginner to intermediate level spinners who can spin a (relatively!) consistent single.
What is included? A selection of different fibre tops is included, for you to experiment with, including silk, alpaca, and tops from some of our yarn ranges, including Yarnadelic and Appledore. You will also receive a complimentary voucher for a beverage from the pop-up MOW café.
What do students need to bring? A working spinning wheel, or e-spinner, 2-3 bobbins, note-taking supplies. Wraps per inch gauges and jewelers scales will be on hand for measurements but feel free to bring your own if you have them.
You will gain the most from this class if your wheel has multiple ratios/speeds.

Tutor Bio: Becks began spinning in 2011 and quickly fell in love with the process of creating yarn. Having built up a sizeable collection of mis-matched skeins, she began working on a more intentional style of spinning.
An educator by trade with a background in film and television, Becks combined her professional experience and love of fibre arts in 2017 with the launch of her YouTube channel, Tiny Fibre Studio. There she shares the projects she’s working on and provides instructional content for other spinners. She also has a keen interest in the intersection of spinning and technology, developing online tools for the fibre community.
