Our limited-edition Midwinter beauty, ‘The Longest Night’ combines some of our favourite local Devon fibre, with a dash of silk, adding a magical glimmer to this glorious navy blue as well as softness and strength that makes this yarn so one of a kind.
You folks loved ‘The Longest Night’ so much that we have decided to spin some more for anyone who didn’t manage to snag a few skeins in our original launch. It is exactly the same as our previous batch, the same glorious sheen and silky lustre, but please note that this is a PRE-ORDER, so you will not receive your yarn right away. We will be spinning these skeins to-order here at our Mill and you can expect to receive them after we post them at the end of December.
Across a dark, almost black wintery sky, a smattering of bright stars can be glimpsed between the snow-filled clouds – maybe you might also see a friendly chap in red with a reindeer-pulled sleigh if you’re lucky…
These magical wintery skeins combine local breeds; Devon Closewool, Bluefaced Leicester, Exmoor Blueface and Romney with a hint of silk, celebrating our favourite breeds like they deserve! The resulting yarn not only feels luxurious, with the softness and strength of the silk, but still has the definition and character of the more rustic breeds too. A perfect combo if you ask us!

You may recognise this unique blend from last year’s Coleoptera mini-collection. You folks loved working with this wool-silk mix, so we thought we’d bring it back in this glorious limited edition shade as a wee seasonal treat. It is also very similar to the Alpaca Supreme shade ‘Azurite’ that has been sold out for a while, so if that was your favourite, you’ll love this version!
‘The Longest Night’ sure is a stunner. Named in honour of the midwinter solstice, when some soft silky yarn in a moonlit-night deep blue is just perfect for some cosy crafting. You can never go wrong with a deep and delicious navy blue, but when you add in a soft silky shimmer, it brings the tones of the yarn to life, highlighting those black, and blue variations. We can imagine this worked up into a beautiful hard-working wintery sweater, (maybe one to wear to next year’s Christmas party!?) drapey and soft shawls and wraps to go with your party clothes, or a warm and squishy vest or slipover, to keep you cosy on a wintery walk.
