Which Witch? Halloween Yarn Collection
Introducing our 2024 Halloween yarn – and this year we’re inspired by all things witchy! Pick from our mini-collection of artisanal yarn, created in limited batches, whether you’re into local Devon fibre, or skeins with a hint of silky softness. Which witch will you choose?
During the spooky season all our slightly scary yarns and tops come out to play! All the yarns in the mill that are a little bit monstrous, (maybe they are a bit like Frankenstein’s monster or a Scarecrow missing an arm) are celebrated for exactly what they are. They may not be perfect, but they are still beautiful.
Sometimes they are just a shade wrong like a creepy doppelganger who almost passes for the original, and sometimes they are a bit wobbly like an ectoplasm spewing ghost! We love thinking of fun new themes each year based off our favourite Halloween movies and characters and we hope you enjoy them too! All Halloween specials are limited edition one-offs as they are made from faulty or leftover products in an effort to minimise waste at the mill.
This year we’ve named everything after some of our favourite witches from screen, stage and page – witches are such versatile characters that they fit into so many genres! Whether you’re into classic soap operas, beloved YA literature, broadway musicals, or Disney films, hopefully you’ll find something here to love!

Our 2024 Halloween Shades…
This year, we’ve been inspired by witches of stage, screen, literature and legend. Here’s what you need to know about each shade:
- Elphaba – A wonderful mid-toned grass green, inspired by Elphaba from the stage production, ‘Wicked’. It’s blend is 50% Falkland Merino and 50% Bluefaced Leicester. While this is exactly the blend of our Knit by Numbers, it is underplied (loose), which means we couldn’t include it in our usual KBN line-up. It is a 4ply (Approximately 400m / 100g).
- The White Witch – Unbelievably wearable and versatile, this silky and shiny off-white just had to be named after the White Witch from ‘Narnia’, casting her wintery spell. Its blend is 95% Devon Double Sorted Bluefaced Leicester and 5% lustrous Silk, and came from an original experiment of John’s from years ago! It is a DK, and sold in 50g skeins. (Approximately 120m/50g).
- Sabrina – A punchy pomegranate pink-red, this shade is named after Sabrina Spellman, of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’. These skeins were part of an original test run of Harvest Hues ‘Loganberry’, and while the colour didn’t quite match, we thought it was still so beautiful that we just had to offer it to you folks too. It’s blend is 33% Bluefaced Leicester / 33% Falklands Merino / 33% Zwartbles, and is a 4ply. (Approximately 400m / 100g).
- Ursula – A deep purple with tones of black just had to be named after the sea witch, Ursula from ‘The Little Mermaid’. We can imagine these skeins making the most wearable winter sweater. These skeins were part of a sample test run of Harvest Hues, which didn’t fit the exact shade we needed at the time. It’s blend is 33% Bluefaced Leicester / 33% Falklands Merino / 33% Zwartbles, and is a 4ply. (Approximately 400m / 100g).
- Samantha – This pale yellow-cream had to be named after that blonde haired witch – Samantha from ‘Bewitched’. The flaxen hues of the skeins give a deliciously multi-tonal colour which we just love. This shade was a commission test shade that wasn’t quite right. It’s blend is a mix of Bluefaced Leicester, Exmoor Blueface, Zwartbles and Romney, and is a 4ply. (Approximately 340m / 100g).
